Taliban Discuss Identity Document Challenges for Afghan Migrants in Turkey

The National Statistics and Information Authority under the Taliban administration has announced that its director, Mullah Abdul Qaher Haji Idris, met with Saneullah Farahmand, the Taliban-appointed ambassador to Turkey, to discuss identity-related issues faced by Afghans residing in that country.
According to a statement from the authority, although no further details were disclosed, the meeting focused on exploring solutions to identity documentation challenges faced by Afghan migrants and on efforts to provide them with necessary services.
During the meeting, Farahmand proposed the establishment of special centers to distribute electronic identity cards (Tazkera) for Afghan migrants in Turkey. This proposal comes amid ongoing difficulties, as many migrants lack access to identification documents due to the absence of official civil registration offices.
Haji Idris emphasized the need to address identity problems faced by Afghan nationals in Turkey and other countries, and called for a rapid and balanced civil registration process. However, experts say the Taliban administration has failed to meet the needs of migrants abroad, largely due to its lack of international legitimacy and its inability to deliver basic public services.
